- As the winter months draw in, Hannah Twiggs explores the top trends of the season for men
As much as we all try to deny it – our glorious British Summer is drawing to a bitter end, and the winter months are closing in.
This selection of top transitional pieces will keep you looking sharp throughout the colder seasons.
Return of the Mac
Invest in the classic British look with an iconic trench coat. Look for a double-breasted fit in navy, camel or dark green. Why not go for 1960’s chic and accessorise with a hook-handled umbrella and horn-rimmed frames.
– Burberry Brit ‘Britton’ trench coat £640
Go back to basics with the original masculine colour: blue is set to be THE Autumn shade. As the cold settles in, relieve the seasonal blues with a statement knit. Choose a crewneck in orange or cobalt for that wow factor.
– Ralph Lauren orange sweater £85
No man should be without-brogue. The Brogue is a wardrobe staple that can be dressed up to impress, or dressed down for a chic, casual look. Light tan is a thing of the past; go for a more heavy duty boot to get you through the colder months.
– Zara perforated ankle boot £80
Ban The Budgie Smugglers
The skinny jean no longer reigns supreme. We welcome the overdue return of the ‘more relaxed fit’. It’s all about dark blues, raw finishes and the subtle turn-up. Cheeky tip: don’t wash them! They will age wonderfully. Just throw them in the freezer if they get a bit pungent.
– Topman navy dot turn up skinny trousers £34
Spartan Worthy Grooming
With the onset of Autumn and Winter, comes the arrival of the ‘rather fetching’ facial rug. If you want to appease us girls, keep it neat and scrambled-egg free. But not too neat! We all love a bit of Craig David but his overly immaculate 90s style is reserved strictly for guys who work in a phone shop. No chin straps please!
So it’s a got a little bit colder, but it is nowhere near the time to whip out your woollen number yet: go for something light and chic. For bolder gents, opt for a paisley cravat. Alternatively, a cotton scarf will serve you just as well with that trench coat. Go for a polka dot or hounds tooth print.
– Topman monochrome houndstooth pocket square £6
– Gold tone Casio square watch £48
– Topman tortoise shell classic readers glasses £14
