- Ella Daniel-Lowe fills you in on the upcoming events NX Records are hosting
Emerging in the form of a pop-up shop on 310 New Cross Road this month is the freshly founded NX Records. The brainchild of Accidental Records’ Matthew Herbert and Goldsmiths Popular Music Department, NX Records launched independently earlier this year in May. Coinciding with the launch was their first release, an online mixtape containing a diverse array of Goldsmiths talent (available free on Soundcloud).
The shop stocks both CDs and Vinyls that have been released by Goldsmiths’ students and alumni alongside other related merchandise. It will be playing host to a number of live events every week until November 23rd, ranging from free gigs and DJ sets to industry talks and special guest appearances. Sign up in-store to make sure you don’t miss out!
Just as the Goldsmiths’ music department welcomes all genres, so does NX Records. The majority of artists currently on the label fall within the electronic category, however, there are also others coming from alternative-rock, folk and singer-songwriter backgrounds. Although currently only working with students from the college, their aim is to eventually open their doors to local artists too.
A compilation album ‘Crossing Lines’ is set for release on the November 11th with a launch party taking place at St James’ Church (next to Loring Hall) on the 15th. All twelve bands featured on the album will be playing over the course of the month, either at the pop-up shop or the launch party. A limited edition copy with hand-made packaging will be available from the shop.
There are also plenty of ways to participate in the project, even if you aren’t musically inclined. NX Records is volunteer run and they are always on the look out for extra help, especially from photographers, film-makers and writers.
