  • The Jacaranda is a pub in Liverpool where the Beatles first started playing

Dust settled on antique souls.

Once a breath of life for John, Paul, Stuart and George

legends born and enshrined under chandelier sheen

made eternal in karaoke machine dedications.

Joey and the Wheels ended their world tour here every Friday.

Memories of New Orleans’s steamy nights

dripped down the perspiring cellar bar ceiling

harmonic lips enticed a Black Widow Woman

pleasured her with a pounding blues chord

Strummed out

A minor

Lost in the acid fuelled hallucinations of the witchdoctor

spellbinding crowds with Witches’ Brew poured into a shot-glass

under roof, lives played out through a Wurlitzer crackle.

Swept up, drunk, you had said, “I love you”

Our tune echoed out of speakers

Love Will Tear Us Apart

initials scratched into wood

a permanent contract signed.

Years later, after our tune had ended

your name appeared next to hers

etched into the toilet door like a scar
