It’s no secret that after a month of saying ‘oh go on, it’s Christmas’, we feel like shit. Dark circles look more like punch-ups, and ‘ceebs’ seems to be most used word in the English vocabulary. Swiftly morphing into the turkeys we ate for Christmas dinner, we reach breaking point. For most, January is a time of transformation when like Cinderella; we go from drab to fab. In an attempt to reclaim our pre-Christmas glows, we subject ourselves to grueling diets, and the latest round of celebrity fitness DVDs. Luckily, there are pain-free ways to magic ourselves beautiful again. Now we’re into February it’s time to bring dull skin back to life.

All you need is a little bit of fairy dust. Well, almost. Highlighters with touches of pink and champagne shimmers work best for natural looking luminosity, while golden shimmers say tanned goddess. Regardless of which highlighter you use, it’s important to apply it solely on the areas of your face that would normally catch the light: the tops of your cheek bones, down the nose and onto the chin, the Cupid’s bow, the centre as well as the inner corner of the lid, and lastly the arch of the brow. For ultimate radiance, you can also apply a blush with shimmer in it onto the apples of the cheeks up towards the cheek bones.

If you want more of a full look, then I would suggest opting for a pastel eye shadow. Pastel blue eye shadow is set to be a major trend for 2014, and would be perfect for creating that wide awake look. If you want to carry it from day to night, then you could add a navy or royal blue eye shadow to the crease, winging it out towards the end of the brow. Other pretty pastels include lilac, peach and mint, which would stand out best with clear mascara. Another way to turn pastel into party would be to apply the eye shadow all the way up to the brow. To finish the look, apply nail varnish in a matching colour.

Irrespective of how yucky you feel, I promise that with some beauty TLC you’ll be feeling like a princess in no time; ready to go to the ball.
