Fashion contributor Jennifer Hahn strips away the ‘vintage guise’ of Urban Outfitter’s renewal line and reveals its over-priced flamboyant skeleton, that is actually muttoning up our lamb-like obsession with all things thrifty.
But when you’re buying someone’s old flannel shirt for SIXTY pounds I think its time to take a step back and look at what you’re doing. If you had found that same shirt at any charity shop for a fiver you would have probably put it back because come on – you don’t have five pounds spare for someone’s discarded clothes since you spent the last of your loan on the bus ride home from Bussey and a Chick Chicken meal deal. The truth is, that five pound shirt that seemed kind of shabby in a dimly lit, slightly damp-smelling charity shop is worth just as much as that dry cleaned Urban Renewal one. Don’t be fooled by the great lighting in UO’s changing rooms! Yes, that flannel looks great on you but IT’S NOT WORTH IT!
