Back to School with Cheap Monday

September 25, 2017
Cheap Monday's AW17 collection is road-tested by the fashion editor and friends.

Back to School with Cheap Monday

A landmark of Carnaby Street, the Cheap Monday brand is known for “no bullshit jeanswear”. Certainly, their AW17 collection features a strong mix of styles, colours and fits when it comes to denim. The whole season is characterised by a nonchalant, urban attitude. Bomber jackets, skinny trousers and oversized tees in muted colours with graphic prints. [smiths] was sent samples from the AW17 collection to road test for our Back to School Edit.

Jed wears Buckle Bomber and Sonic Coin Blue Jeans , Vicki wears Delusion Bomber and High Spray Blue Jeans.

The clothes are comfortable, understated and made us feel pretty darn stylish. Jed Stanton, a friend who graciously agreed to model said:

“You know it’s not really the kind of stuff I would normally wear, but I actually felt really good in it – we banged out some hard photos. It was a lot of fun and I wanna cop myself a shirt.”

Unlike many other fashion brands who exploit underhand practices when it comes to their workers and the environment, Cheap Monday are refreshingly upfront. Instead of having to follow link after link, playing ‘find the sustainability report’ – the welcome page of Cheap Monday has ‘Sustainability’ proudly amongst Women’s, Men’s and Denim Fit Guide. No goose chase required.

And proud they should be. 100% of the denim in the AW17 we were wearing is labelled sustainable, with 88% of the menswear joining the ranks as well. Furthering this, Cheap Monday have committed themselves to try and achieve a sweep across the board with the AW18 collection. The goal is for 100% of the Men’s and Womenswear to share the same sustainable status as the denim.
