1. Earl Sweatshirt – ‘Nowhere2go / The Mint’
After almost a couple of years with no music from Earl Sweatshirt, two singles have now been released from the album Some Rap Songs out on the 30th November. ‘Nowhere2go’ is an alienating jam and hugely dense and claustrophobic in its production; mesmerising, and hard to pin down. ‘The Mint’ definitely appeals more to a conventional hiphop structure, although it is still absolutely gorgeous and shows lots of promise for this new project. Earl has shown so much potential in his career, and in many instances has come through, he’s funny, talented, and his lyrics are gorgeous, I think Some Rap Songs could really be an AOTY consideration for me.

2. Hannah Diamond – ‘True’
Finally, after what seems an eternity of cryptic instagram posts, the promise of ‘new material’ every two months and a few too many twitter spats, PC MUSIC have finally dropped some new works. But, does it live up to the hype? The answer is; kind of. As arguably one of the most conventional characters in PC MUSIC’s roster of pop-freaks, Hannah comes out with a song that is, well, pretty normal. AG Cook is still present in production but takes a step back here; without the context of PC MUSIC the track is fine- but with the group’s reputation preceding it I can’t help but think the track is lacking something. With new releases Charli XCX, umru, and Tommy Ca$h there is an implication that Hannah has been sidelined a little here and the real innocent fun her music has slightly lost traction. Other than that the track is very pretty, the production is still gorgeous, and as you can imagine the album art delivers; other than writing music Hannah is a talented photographer and designs all her own album art.

3. Charli XCX – ‘1999 (EASYFUN Remix)’
Another PC MUSIC release, EASYFUN delivers a fun and wacky take on Charli’s new single. Some dense moments in the mix, especially the layered bell moments, could appear too intense for the casual PC listener however as long as you are not too bored of the hook yet 1999calls back to Easyfun’ 2016 work Deep Troublewith use of vocal samples and pulsing synth chords. Having producer for MØ, Rita Ora and Charli XCX he is one to watch with new singles coming out at a prolific rate.

4. Karen O x Danger Mouse – ‘Lux Prima’
Lux Prima has a disarming structure however as a whole, the song is epic and stunning. To any fans of Angelo Badalamenti’s original Twin Peaks soundtrack, you will definitely get something out of this. The collaboration may come as a surprise to many however this combo is not a one-off. The unexpected duo have just recorded a full length project for which they both appear on every track.

5. Vince Staples – ‘Relay’
A lead single from the new EP, FM!, Vince hits us with yet another experimental banger; produced by Hagler (Drake/A$AP Ferg) the track is great fun and includes an awesome hook that’s bound to get stuck in your head (Fed chirp on scannerrrrr). The EP is pretty brief but definitely an interesting listen, based conceptually on a radio show it is dark, funny, and Vince is bursting with personality on every track. This one will be enjoyed mostly by fans of experimental hip hop but also fans of West Coast/Bay Area rap, especially Hyphy will find something to enjoy here.

6. Thom Yorke – ‘Has Ended’
Although not totally new, this track is nonetheless under appreciated and missed by many. Thom Yorke’s soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino’s adaption of the movie Suspiriais is dark, brooding, atmospheric and sinister.

7. JPEGMAFIA – ‘Puff Daddy’
Experimental rap fans – if you haven’t come across JPEGMAFIA yet, stop reading this now and go stick on this new single, Puff Daddy. This guy has been shaking up the underground for a long time on Deathbomb Arc, a label that has also worked with members of clipping. and Death Grips, and has recently been pushed closer into the limelight after the release of his new tape at the beginning of the year, Veteran. Known for his highly energetic live shows and for literally not giving a fuck, this guy is not for everyone but he’s killing it at the moment. The track is produced by Kenny Beats which surprised me considering he produces most of his own music, but the beats aggressive frequencies and banging industrial kit really work well here.

8. Girlpool – ‘Hire’
LA natives Girlpool’s new single is a gorgeous, washed out indie jam. The production is so on point, the guitars sound absolutely mesmerising, any fans of Beach House, DIIV, Car Seat Headrest, or Alex G will appreciate this one.

9. AJ Tracey – ‘Doing it’
Being one of grimes most promising talents in recent years, the pressure is certainly on AJ to keep pushing the grime boundaries that by their very nature are still constantly expanding. Here, honestly, he fails to deliver. The production comes across as very flat and run-of-the-mill, his verses are on point but the hook is also quite generic, seriously keep on spinning Secure The Bag! and forget about this one.
AJ Tracey announces his long awaited, self-titled debut album, with Swifta Beater-produced lead single ‘Doing It’. World Tour kicks off March 2019, tickets out now. 10. A$AP Rocky – ‘Sundress’
This track has really blown up recently and you’ve probably already heard it, but, if not, it’s a bit of a funky change in tone for Rocky. Despite appealing to radio sensibilities the song is still very unique, heavily sampling Tame Impala’s ‘Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind?’ Honestly I think Rocky could have took this one a step further, the production is very pop focused, however I’ll admit, the song is great overall.

11. The Streets ft. Chip and Grim Sickers – ‘Call Me in the Morning’
This is a great grime collaboration, the track has a subtle afro-beat influence and, despite increasing claims that many struggle with his awkward flows, Mike’s delivery is on-point.

12. Freddie Gibbs x Curren$y x The Alchemist – ‘Location Remote’
Dark and brooding, hip hop’s finest gangsta Gibbs teams up with the legendary alchemist and the not so legendary rapper Curren$y who really holds his own on this track. The Alchemist’s beats sound like cuts from a cowboy movie soundtrack with full sounding acoustic drums. It also includes some of my favourite Gibb’s bars ever. I would recommend this to any hip hop fan but if you liked Madlib’ Pinatayou are also bound to love this.

13. Tyler, the Creator – ‘Hot Chocolate (feat. Jerry Paper)‘
This one is from Tyler’s Christmas EP Music Inspired by Illumination and Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. ‘Hot Chocolate’ is fun, jazzy and groovy, very Flower Boy-esque with strings, horn sections, and live drums. Anyone who dug that project will definitely enjoy this. The album skill-fully combines Tyler’s usual jazzy style with a dusting of seasonal flare in the mix: it’s definitely going on at my house on Christmas day.

1. serpentwithfeet – ‘bless ur heart’

2. Chief Keef – ‘Love Sosa (with a live orchestra)’
King Sosa with an orchestral backing, this one pretty much speaks for itself, and it’s pretty legendary.

Never heard of it!
